Overall: 7/10

Fei Ya is a Chinese restaurant decorated in a modern style and is well known for its FeiYa's Lycheed Wood-roasted Duck. Fei Ya is located on the 3rd floor of Renaissance Ratchaprasong Hotel, Bangkok. The decor is mostly in modern Chinese style with wooden furnitures and round tables, big glass windows also make you feel more comfortable.

The first couse today was the well-known Gyoza or Pan Fried Minced Pork and Vegetable Dumpling. Simplicity but pleasant (5/10). This was followed by Pan Fried Turnip Cake with Assorted Preserved Meat (5/10) which was just ordinary turnip cake from my point of view.

Next was Steamed Crab Meat and Celery Dumpling (6/10). Soft, juicy, and big with quality stuffing, though hardly exciting.
I then tried Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (8/10) and Steamed Shrimp Dumpling with Dried Scallop (8/10). Both were stuffed with large fresh shrimp and wrapped with thin layer of flour. However, I cannot manage to differentiate well between the one with and without Dried Scallop.

Deep Fried Shrimp and Mango Roll followed was creative. Shrimp and mango were wrapped within crusted bread. Filling was sweet and lightly creamy (6/10).
Another deep fried dish was Crispy Smoked Salmon with Salad Dumpling. Although dough was real crisp, filling didn't go well in this case. Nevertheless, it was still worth a try (4/10).

Next inline was Deep Fried Rice Flour Stuffed with Shrimp. Thin layer of deep fried rice flour was crisp and cracked. Shrimp was just rich in flavour. It seemed normal but Fei Ya made it pleasantly enjoyment (7/10). This is truly something cannot be missed.
Deep Fried Mashed Taro with Duck Meat was another disappointment and below my expectation. Flavour was not sharp enough and a little too soggy (5/10) but it had crispy and fluffy skin.

Next was Steamed Garoupa Fillet with Garlic and Vermicelli. An ordinary Chinese dish but extraordinary taste. Fillet was tender and delicate. Flavour from sauce was elegant, sweet and salty combined really well (7/10).
At this point, I chose Deep Fried Custard Bun instead of the traditional steamed one. Though I could not really say disappointment, but savoury was lacked I must say (4/10)

Last but not least, FeiYa's Lychee Wood-Roasted Duck or Peking Duck was truly the highlight at Fei Ya. What differentiate peking duck at Fei Ya from others was the special made lychee sauce. Lychee had been well marinated with red wine and gave lightly thick flavour which went well with sweetness of lychee. Duck skins were real crisp and no fat bit attached to as they were skillfully sliced. Chopped garlic elaborated the flavour to the next level. Truly unrivalled and far better than what I had elsewhere in recent years (9/10).
Meat leftover was then used to cook Woked Fried Duck Meat with Bamboo Shoot and Shitake Mushroom with Crispy Vermicelli. This was a little dry but tasty. Iceberg lettuce indeed enhanced the flavour (5/10).

I was particularly touched by the above standard services and pricing which was not overpriced. However, it could be much more expensive for evening meal. Otherwise, Fei Ya is another place that must be visited. Definitely an excellent restaurant in its category, which worth a detour in my perception.
